2022 here we come!

So this is the year of Hetty. This is the year we are determined to finish her and make her roadworthy! It’s also the year of the Tiger apparently. I am not sure there is a good comparison here. It would be great for Hetty to be sleek, lithe, sophisticated and fast. Unfortunately for her, being old and brick shaped doesn’t do her any favours. I think she would be better compared to a tortoise or sloth. But we shall find out this year eh?

What’s been going on?

Oh my goodness. I have just looked at my last post (cue bugles here?) and we have done loads. We are not working on Hetty that often really but there is loads to share.

Man make fire!

After cleaning the fire, we fitted her. No mean feat really. Another venture for Dave onto Hetty’s roof to cut a hole. Always a nerve racking time. Will she or won’t she leak. Installation involved such complexities as a makeshift card template to use to measure the hole. The double skinned flue pipes and associated bits were alarmingly expensive, well in my eyes anyway, so better do a good job. I have just noticed I mentioned that in my previous post, so I must still be in shock.

We have also nearly finished the external part of the back wall. We had part built it and then found a different shaped window on FB MP so took it all down and started again. It makes it much cosier working in Hetty, especially when the fire is on.

We have a kitchen!

The kitchen units arrived as planned in the October half term. A great deal of measuring and cutting was involved to make sure we had uprights in the correct place to fix the kitchen units to. The original second hand sink just took up far too much of the limited worktop we had, so we decided to go and buy a new round sink. Before we started to build the kitchen, we decided to also purchase a fridge and oven. Much deliberation on our part before we decided on grey. Anyone who knows Dave and I will appreciate such decisions can take a bit of time!

We have a pull out sofa bed!

The most recent challenge was to build a sofa bed in the space we had left between the kitchen and the stairs to the master bedroom. Whilst we know it is only long enough for very, very short people to lay on it straight, I will fit on it in my usual sleeping position, so I guess it is where I would sleep should we ever have a row and wish to sleep in separate beds. Either that or Dave can sleep outside. With that in mind, we will also add some sort of extension so a taller person wishing to sleep on it does not have to sleep with their knees tucked under their chin.

So, as you can see, we have been been busy since October. This weekend we are deciding on what comes next!
