How did we end up with Hetty
I have been asking myself since Hetty was delivered this morning… what on earth are we doing? Allow me to explain.
A short while ago my eldest daughter separated from her boyfriend after having bought a house together a year ago. You know what’s coming, …. ‘Muuuum, can I come and live back at home?’ This wouldn’t have been a problem if we hadn’t removed a wall in the house shortly after she moved out (I think I left it a good four hours after she left before pulling down the wall, which I thought was a decent amount of time).
Anyway, since she is now living in ‘the den’ on our fabulous sofa bed, with a canvas wardrobe to store all of her stuff, a longer term solution needs to be found. Having ruled out the back of the work shed as an option (seemed ok to me), we started to look at alternative solutions. Could a shepherds hut work? How about a caravan? Could we find her a rich new man to take her off our hands quickly (only joking Holly)?
We stumbled upon a great solution whilst scrolling through local items for sale on the FB marketplace. How about an old horsebox we could convert at our leisure! And once Holly does find a new love of her life and chooses to move onto pastures new, we will have a camper van to use to travel around the UK. Hoorah. A win win situation it seems to me.
Having viewed rather a lot of horse boxes for sale online, read a book and watched numerous videos about converting vans, etc, we took the plunge last weekend, went to view a horsebox and by jove, we bought it! The kind owner (or should I say previous owner) agreed to deliver it to our driveway. Thank goodness he did, as if I had been reversing it down the drive I fear half the house and the telegraph pole would have gone with it too.
So, here we are. A 24 year old horse box now resides on our driveway as of today. I videoed it arriving, but not before I videod the driver turning down the wrong road first, did a ‘grand tour’ video and also several videos of our dog trying to get back out of the horsebox, which was most amusing.

Scrabble, attempt 237 at getting out of the horsebox
We have already purchased an item to go in it, before we even knew if we could buy a horsebox. A beautiful log burner purchased from a man off the back of a narrowboat. Better than a lorry I suppose.
We’re going to have to wait until the weekend to take stock of exactly what we have purchased, since we all work full time, leave for work in the dark and arrive home in the dark. Can’t wait!!
